Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment (UPHE) has been arguably the most effective organization in Utah working to improve our air quality and fighting other battles over environmental contamination. UPHE has helped prevent the construction of numerous coal power plants in the West, a petroleum coke power plant in North Salt Lake, and the burning down of over 40 homes in Ogden. We were one of the first organizations to call for public opposition to the Las Vegas Water Grab. We have organized an ongoing campaign through audio, visual and print media to educate the public on the importance of protecting our air, water and soil. We are currently challenging in court the recent expansion of the Kennecott mine because of its impact on public health.
UPHE members and volunteers have given generously of their time for this important cause for the last five years and we have never before asked for donations. However, we have reached the point where we cannot do everything that needs to be done without financial support. Currently, we are legally challenging the approval of the Tesoro oil refinery expansion and need to establish a legal defense fund. This is a critical battle to preserve your health. If this permit is not challenged, all the other refineries will also apply for expansion and the end result will be even more air pollution and all its health consequences for you, your children and your grandchildren, for the next several decades.
Please help UPHE protect your environment by donating through our secure PayPal site.
