Amid Criticism, Inland Port Delays Wasting $150 Million in Taxpayer Money
Thanks to everyone who came out last week to protest the latest egregious idea by the Utah Inland Port Authority (UIPA)–issuing a bond that would force the public to subsidize a transloading facility for businesses within the port. They wouldn’t be profitable without the subsidy.
And the protest worked! The public outrage it demonstrated and pushback from Salt Lake City’s mayor and City Council is undoubtedly what pressured UIPA Director Jack Hedge to delay taking a vote on the bond. UIPA will certainly come back and try this again, but we take this as a temporary victory of sanity over insanity, common sense over nonsense, and facts over fiction.
