Industrializing wetlands, press conference and coverage
UPHE cohosted and spoke at a press conference with the Stop the Polluting Port Coalition. The topic – harm of industrializing wetlands. Currently, the Utah Inland Port is the largest threat to destruction of wetlands in Utah, with Great Salt Lake wetlands at the heart of many of their plans, like in Tooele and Weber County.
Despite Tooele Valley’s severe lack of water resources, the state is fast-tracking development projects from the Inland Port. In Weber County, 9,000 acres in between two waterfowl management areas are slated for development. Destroying wetland habitat adjacent to the waterfowl management areas will counteract millions of dollars and work done to protect wetlands.
