Savage may proceed with rail line for Inland Port project

UPHE, alongside the Erda Community Association and local residents, petitioned the Surface Transportation Board (STB) to reconsider its approval of the Savage Tooele Railroad, an 11-mile rail line connecting the Lakeview Business Park to Union Pacific’s main line. Our concerns centered on the rushed development process and potential environmental harm.

Our request for reconsideration was unfortunately denied under the newly Trump appointed STB Chairman, who has expressed a desire to “address matters more quickly.”

UPHE remains committed to advocating for responsible, science-based development that prioritizes public health and environmental sustainability. While this outcome is not what we had hoped for, our continued work holds developers accountable and pushes for stronger protections against pollution, ensuring that Utah’s communities and natural spaces are not sacrificed for short-term economic gain.
