Utah and the Nation is in Crisis

The Salt Lake Tribune covered the crisis we face as COVID cases keep climbing, pushing our health care workers and space to house critical cases to capacity. Almost 16% of tests are positive, a rate far too high. Here are a few excerpts:

Utah saw another 1,960 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday — a new single-day record that had health officials and elected leaders pleading with the public to take the pandemic seriously and make personal sacrifices.

As physicians, we are concerned about our fellow health care workers – for their health, safety, and stress levels working under such hard conditions. Even if new space is created to put critical patients, the number of health care works stays the same, and we can’t afford to push them much further.

“These last seven months have pushed myself and my colleagues to our limit,” said Katrina Emery, a nurse in the U.’s ICU unit. “This isn’t sustainable and we’re exhausted.”
