Op-ed compares failed Dubai islands with Utah Lake proposal

An op-ed in the Daily Herald by Utah author John Bennion compares a failed attempt to build islands in Dubai to the proposed artificial island project for Utah Lake. The op-ed brings up concerns regarding practicality, finances, and environmental impact of the proposed project, and uses the Dubai Islands as a warning.

“What could happen is that the organizers will pay themselves huge taxpayer-funded salaries, make a mess and not clean it up. A much less expensive and more efficient route to improving Utah Lake is to augment the work that is already being done by the Utah Lake Commission and Utah Division of Water Quality” Bennion writes.
