UPHE on RadioACTIVE – our event and an update on Parley’s Canyon
UPHE’s Executive Director, Jonny Vasic, joined the RadioACTIVE show on KRCL last week. He promoted our free event on October 17th at Patagonia where our doctors will be addressing the concern with dust coming from Great Salt Lake, and other issues we’re working on.
He talked about the road being paved up Parley’s Canyon. The road is a concern and a source of confusion, because Granite Construction is building it, assumingly for their proposed mine, which has not been approved yet. Our partner in the battle to prevent this mine mentioned the opposition against the mine, and how the issue will likely be tied up for years in litigation. The Division of Air Quality has told us that dust from mining operations like what is being proposed is their number one source of complaints. And this location seems to be chosen in part because there is less dust mitigation effort the company will be legally required to do because of high wind speeds in the canyon.
Jonny also announced the documentary on Great Salt Lake we’ve been working on behind the scenes. A sneak peak will be shown at our event this Friday!
UPHE’s portion starts 47 minutes into the segment.
