Major source of air pollutants in southern Utah under fire

A recent lawsuit filed by the State of Utah against Green Natural Gas Ventures LLC (GNG Ventures) underscores the urgent necessity for stringent pollution control measures and vigilant oversight. The company’s gas and helium plant in La Sal, Utah, was found to be in violation of seven conditions of its operating permit.

According to a Salt Lake Tribune article, “The state said in the complaint that the company failed to:

• Test for carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide emissions by mandatory deadlines.
• Submit monitoring reports due in September.
• Monitor, record and submit reports for leak detection and repairs from July 1 to December 31, 2024.
• Submit confirmation that it complied with the terms and conditions of its operating permit, which was due in September.
