2026 Rally to Save Our Great Salt Lake

Saturday, January 31, thousands gathered for the 5th Rally to Save Our Great Salt Lake. Residents showed clearly this is a top priority for them, and it needs to translate into meaningful legislation from the legislature this session.

UPHE’s Manager of Programs and Development, Brandi O’Brien, spoke to Utah News Dispatch at the rally and told them “We need a lot more from the legislature. We can’t save the lake if we’re cutting off the wetlands with developments from the Utah Inland Port Authority. We can’t save the lake if we continue spraying toxic pesticides across it.”

Feeling the extent of the consequences of a dry lakebed wasn’t being fully reported, UPHE worked with partners at Utah Rivers Council to assess over 500 studies in our comprehensive report, Downwind. The report showed that the “lake level continuing to drop could cost the state billions between controlling dust and dealing with health issues of residents.”
